Monarch Knitting & Quilts
JUST IN FOR SUMMER 2008
WHAT'S NEW AT MONARCH KNITTING & QUILTS
Hello knitters!! Time flies when you’re getting new yarns in at every turn! We are so happy
with the continuing influx of inspiring, beautiful yarns and fibers! We are noticing a definite trend
toward more earth-friendly yarns -- reaching all the way to the crop and animal producing levels.
This is wonderful! And it’s about time, if you ask us!
No matter which yarn you choose, we hope your knitting pleasure is enhanced by your choice.
And we hope you remember to call us toll free (1-888-575-YARN) if you have a knitting question!
COMING SOON
We have exciting news for Kaffe Fassett admirers. There are 2 new and distinctively different yarns
coming directly from the eye of the master.
One is like his current sock yarn, except it’s a bit heavier at a DK weight, and with lots of garment
 patterns made just for it
The other is from Rowan -- a thick, colorful wool made with a special process (in England) so that
the colors don’t repeat. You will love this stuff!
We’re also getting a few luxury yarns which we just couldn’t pass up. A pure cashmere from Italy
and a DK weight silk -- also European -- in scrumptious colors. Both expensive! Both worth it!!
Noro has a new Silk Garden Sock yarn -- plus 8 new colors of the already-popular Kureyon sock.
Debbie Bliss continues to wow us with patterns and a couple of additions to her lines -- a
4-Ply Baby Cashmerino for her awesome fair-isle kid designs!) and her Irish Tweed now comes in a
softer version, thanks to added angora. It’s called Luxury Tweed and that’s certainly what it is!
Our favorite pattern booklets right now come from Sublime and so does a new organic wool!
Lovely muted tones like “asparagus” and “sailcloth” and of course the jaw-dropping pattern support.
From Plymouth Yarns, another awesome Peruvian alpaca (they still offer the finest and cheapest
alpaca if you ask us!) - this one a lace weight; plus a darling baby sweater set which includes the
buttons; and finally, those wonderous pre-knit swaths which you unravel to create socks!
FEATURED YARN FOR SUMMER
Jamieson & Smith
Jamieson
&
Smith
We are absolutely thrilled to become one of the
few shops in the US carrying the full line of
Jamieson & Smith yarns in all three weights!
The 2-ply jumper weight of this beautiful yarn
comes in scores of colors, many of them lovely
heathers, much of the palette in shaded hues.
That's just one of the reasons this premier yarn is
perfect for fair-isle work. Another is its loftiness,
which allows for stranded work which remains light
 and warm.
The lace weight is still a 2-ply, and is so easy to
work with. There's nothing like the cobweb weight,
1-ply which has been used for many years to make
 true heirloom pieces.
We're so pleased to be importing this line
directly from the Shetland Islands, and will soon
be adding full pattern support as well. Just click on
 the names for more information.

A TIP FOR LACE KNITTING
The British distinguish between the four types of yarn-overs in lace knitting, but we do not.
So here’s the breakdown. And remember, the yo is only the yarn going around or over the needle -- it
does not include the working of the next stitch! From a k st to a k st, the yo is accomplished by simply
bringing the yarn from back to front. From a p st to a k st, just leave the yarn in front From a p st to
a p st, you must bring the yarn all the way around the needle, from the front back to the front again.
The same goes for a k st to a p st. In all cases, you must make sure that a yarn over creates one, and
only one, more stitch on the needle. By the way, the British call these yf (yarn forward), yo, and yrn
 (yarn round needle), respectively.
