Monarch Knitting & Quilts
JUST IN FOR FALL 2009 / WINTER 2010
GREETINGS
Hi knitters! Winter is once again upon
us, which for us means a fantastic new
season of all new yarns. Whereas in the
recent past, we’ve seen all kinds of new
fibers come on the market, this season is
marked by a return to the old favorites.
We’ve noted a toning down of many
 colorways, although some old attention-
grabbers like Noro continue with brights.
Many natural yarns are going softer with
 elements like angora.
And one of our best-selling yarns is an
acrylic which is made in a unique way that
 hasn’t been duplicated -- it’s called Marble,
 from J.C. Brett.
No matter what your taste in yarn, we hope
you find that most valuable of comodities --
time -- to enjoy your fiber art!! Have fun!

WHAT'S NEW
Back in style are chunkier yarns, and Debbie
Bliss is a leader in this trend with, among others,
Como; From Noro comes a subtle pair (for
them): Vintage, with gentle color changes, and
Retro, a semi-solid; Rowan has several
interesting new entries including a unique fiber
combo of cotton and alpaca; Plymouth weighs in
with what we consider the best tweed on the
market, plus more; and all of this is supported by
fantastic new books both specifically for the
yarns, and generally. In all cases, there’s a lot
 of new stuff to enjoy!
Crochet Cotton
Also for those of you who are into thread
crochet, we have greatly expanded our inventory
of crochet cotton. 21 different colors of size #10
and an additional 14 solid and variegated colors
of size #20. Plus as always a large selection of
 hooks, books and patterns.

COMING SOON
We are starting to obtain, little by litte,
more of the Wagtail 2 Ply yarn which is truly a
lace weight kid mohair, in stunning colors. The
folks at Wagtail start from animal and work
through to dyed skeins, so we have to be
patient for that yarn. The wait’s worth it.
A TIP: STITCH PATTERNS
If you’re having trouble with a stitch pattern, Suzie’s tip is for you: She casts on her full piece
(a sweater back, for instance) and then on separate needles, one repeat of the stitch pattern with
a nice big, light-colored yarn & needles. Each row, she works across the swatch, then repeats that
row across the bigger piece. One row at a time, she gets that pattern down pat! And she finds out
where a problem might lie before she has that problem on the real project! Suzie’s a genius.
