While We Stitch Away – May 2020

The next installation of our "While We Stitch Away" re-cap is from May of 2020 and is filled with good reads, yummy cookies, good options for online knitting help and some of our favorite projects.

Enjoy!

May 7th -

A book for drinks, dogs and a classic
We've found ourselves reading old favorites...

Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh is a book Ann and her mom re-read from time to time.

Each of my daughters received a copy of  In the Company of Women by Grace Bonney several years ago, and return to it often.

Jenn is enjoying Drinking French by David Lebovitz, and having a grand time creating drinks!

Do you need some organizing inspiration?... Try The Home Edit.  These ladies do it with a sense of humor!

Linus and Bash follow the adventures of their friend Hannah in these children's books featuring Bernese Mountain Dogs.  Linda Bunch, the author, is a friend of Ann's! If you are lucky you might see Hannah and her friends at Carmel Beach in the winter months!

Catching up with the team...We asked our team to share their favorite cookies and some current projects!

Love sweet and salty?  Jenn's go-to comfort cookie are these Buttered Popcorn Chocolate Chip cookies. She's currently looking for a new project, and just might order some Quince Kestrel for summer!

Ann is casting on the stunning Dane by Julie Hoover in mYak Yak Lace and enjoying baking her family's favorite Chocolate Malt Sandwich Cookies.

Koryn leaves the baking up to her husband, but her favorite cookie is anything with lemon... These Lemon Burst cookies sound like the perfect summery treat!

Those who know Jana know that she always has a treat whipped up. She's currently baking Classic Snickerdoodle Cookies. Yum!

Diane has been busy knitting away on her Tensho Pullover in Hudson + West Forge while she cooks from Buck Naked Kitchen by Kirsten Buck.

Heather's little one is working on a world cultures project, and cookies are the medium! They are baking these Danish Butter Cookies

Alyssa is having fun cooking at home, and is hoping to try these Blueberry Shortbread Bars.

Projects we love to knit again and again...

When you just want to knit something luxurious (& fun!), the Woolfolk 3 Color Cowl is the ticket.  Ann has knit several of them for gifts in a variety of color combos.  Who wouldn't want to receive one?

The Lineate hat has been a shop favorite and it's certainly Koryn's go-to hat.  She's knit a few of these joyfully fun hats!

Diane admits to being a one project wonder kinda gal, but she has knitted a few of the Gatsby Necklaces - they're lovely little gifts!

We all know Jana loves a theme and projects with colorwork are a great way plan gift sets - you can really have fun with colors! The Deep Woods Hat would make for a darling family set, don't you agree?

The running joke amid Jenn's knitting pals is that she always has a Morning Walk Hat on her needles.  But it's true and she has finally decided to knit one as a treat to herself!

A project that can be paired with some little spa items? Sign us up!  Heather loves knitting and gifting the Warm Springs Bath Mitt

An avid sock knitter, Alyssa has knitted the Fish Lip Kiss Heel Flap for most of her socks.  She's knitted it 8 times!

Although we have now opened our doors, it is for shopping only.  We will not be offering knitting/crochet help or private lessons.  So we thought we would share some of our favorites go-to tutorials when we're at home!

Our friends over at KnitChats are ready to help!  As a virtual community of knitters and teachers, they offer on-demand knitting and crochet support.  They even have some videos, too.  Visit KnitChats to learn more and join their community.

Staci Perry of Very Pink Knits is one YouTube channel we frequently recommend and refer to ourselves. Her videos are clear, detailed and are edited professionally.  Plus, she always has a nice manicure!

KnittingHelp.com is a great site for how-to videos, blog posts and offers a great forum to ask questions and to interact with others.

Hooked on crochet? We love following DeBrosse on Instagram for quick tutorials and HopefulHoney on YouTube for in-depth how-tos on all things crochet.
