May 30th Newsletter

Dear Friends,

I had a very quiet week at home. Isn’t that the nicest thing to be able to say? Working, knitting, celebrating my daughter’s birthday, and hanging out with Bash make for a wonderful week.I blocked my Norma sweater, and have uploaded a photo on my Ravelry project page for you all to see. Next week I am heading out to Pittsburgh to visit my daughter, her husband, and my grandson.  I haven't seen him in a couple of months, so I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with him!

The Early Summer Tee Along is starting at the perfect time! I will have a lot of time for knitting while traveling. Remember, it is not too late to join in!  We will all cast on together on Saturday morning; if you’re local, please come by and knit with us!  (I might be baking a few goodies for the event ;) If you are not local, post a photo of your cast on in the Ravelry Group. Knitting together as a community is what an LYS is all about!

As you can see in the photo, I have my knitting bag all ready for a new project.  Just to remind you, I am knitting Isabel Kraemer’s Heimathafen. I love setting up my knitting bag for a new project, and getting everything organized and on hand brings me joy.  Am I the only one?

We have added some summer classes to our list. Intro to crochet, mosaic knitting, knitting 102, amigurumi, punch needle, crochet hanger covers…. Make this summer the time to level up your skills.  We even have a class on this week’s project, the Emile Bag. Oh, and our Thursday morning help table is back!  You can see it all under Classes and Events on our website.

Knit and be happy,
Ann

Highlights

Curious what the Monarch team is casting on for our Summer Tee-Along? 🌞 Head to the blog to see everyone's picks—there's a mix of breezy textures, classic silhouettes, and yarns we can't wait to work with!

A celebration of stitch and structure, this charming triangular shawlette uses just one skein of yarn to stunning effect—perfect for savoring every stitch. Our kits include a skein of North Bay Fibers Elemental Fingering, a beautifully spun yarn that highlights the clean geometry of the reversible honeycomb motif. Soothing to knit yet engaging throughout: simple, elegant and endlessly enjoyable.

A wearable work of art! Using luxurious Blue Sky Fibers Metalico, this asymmetrical cowl adds a pop of color and texture—designer Yumiko Alexander says it's like jewelry for your neck. The join-as-you-go method creates a cable-like effect that’s both fun to knit and beautiful to wear. Connie absolutely loved knitting one.

If you follow Amber of @amsknits on Instagram, you may have seen her two fabulous Emile Bag FOs—and we were instantly inspired to make our own! This chic, oval-based beauty is worked in spiral rounds with textured ribbing, widening to a flattering trapezoidal shape.

Finished with sleek leather handles, it’s both stylish and functional—the IT bag of summer! Our kits include 2 balls of Ra Ra Raffia and a Cocoknits Leather Handle Kit, giving you everything you need to create a handmade statement piece you’ll love to carry.

P.S. Learn how to crochet this fab bag with Koryn. Workshop is Saturday, July 12th!

Wicker Socks

We couldn’t resist diving into our latest shipment of Magpie Fibers Swanky Sock—it’s just too luscious not to cast on! Inspired by the art of traditional basketry, the Wicker Socks by Madison Otsuki (featured in MDK Field Notes) are the perfect match.

This cozy knit pays homage to the quiet strength and beauty of woven wicker, with a simple knit-and-purl texture that’s both subtle and deeply satisfying. Soft, elegant, and endlessly wearable—this is sock knitting at its finest.

Zora

Isabell Kraemer has done it again! Her newest design, Zora, is a beautifully simple v-neck pullover that’s bound to become a staple in your wardrobe.

After playing with color in Heimathafen and texture in Fiorellino, Isabell lets the stunning Fior di Lino yarn take center stage in Zora. Worked mostly in soothing stockinette, it features just the right amount of detail—folded hems, refined cuffs, and a delicate textured pattern at the neckline—for a timeless finish. Understated, elegant, and effortlessly wearable.
